No-Bake Oatmeal Raisin Balls


Just the smell of these treats will have you feeling all snuggly. In this recipe you’ll also get a boost to your mood—and your health!—from cinnamon. And these couldn’t be easier to make. Just a few ingredients, no oven time and voila: instant comfort. No refined sugars to cause a blood sugar crash; the sweetness comes instead from a whole food—dates! Experiment with various types of dates, likeMedjool, Deglet Noor or Zahidi, for different flavors.

Yield: makes 18 to 20 small balls

1 cup dates, pitted

1 3/4 cups oats

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon chia seeds

3/4 cup raisins

 

Soak the dates in filtered water for ten minutes. Drain off the water. Combine the oats, cinnamon, dates and chia seeds in a food processor then process until the ingredients stick together, forming a “dough.” If the dough mixture doesn’t stick together well, add one to two teaspoons of filtered water. Add the raisins and process until combined. Use your fingers to press the dough into small balls for serving. Store balls in the refrigerator, covered, for up to ten days.
